First off, Congratulations, for having landed an internship. Now to ease your mind, here are some professional tips and advice.
Be well mannered, polite and attentive- you will have to attend a lot of meetings, be prepared to take notes, bring your diary and a pen or if you are a digital guy, you can use sticky notes or notepad in your laptop.
In the meetings, your task for the day ahead will be explained to you, listen attentively, ask again if you misheard or didn’t hear anything, express your doubts, in general, be an active part of that discussion.
Once you have settled down and understood your task, draw out a workflow or map of how you are going to approach the task- ask your seniors or colleagues for help if you are feeling stuck somewhere, believe me, they will help you readily, they have also gone through the same phase you are going!
If you are wondering that this post is going on and on about your soft skill that you think you already possess and want to read about the technical stuff about the actual production/development jobs, please keep in mind that being polite and attentive goes in a long way to make professional relations which will help in the long run.
Anyways, the technical aspects will be really mastered by you, that is why you are hired in the first place, even if some gaps are there, again your seniors will come to rescue you, at least they did come in good for me.
Teamwork and collaborations– yes soft skills again, are the most required aspects of the job, to know the ins and outs of Github and version control, to communicate clearly and in timely manner with your colleagues about the changes you have made-letting them know of your work in the proper communication channel is the biggest plus, which helps stop redundancy and errors in the code.
If there is some technical difficulty you are facing, there are various resources at your help, from web search to AI, to talking to your seniors and presenting your screen in a meeting to request a fix, at their convenience, of course.
